It is the time of the year where muslims around the world fast from dawn to sunset. It is the month when the holy Quran was revealed. And it is a moment where Allah bestows his blessings. The month of Ramadan of 2017 starts on the 27th of May. Alhamdulilah, Allah has given us the opportunity to meet this blessed month this year. Ramadhan can be challenging when it is practiced in non muslim countries. For instance, Ramadhan this year falls in summer. In Enschede, iftar is at 10 pm whereas suhoor is at 3.20 am. In order to anticipate such a challenge, preparation helps. Fasting on Monday and Thursday is a good way for priming our bodies prior to Ramadhan. As this years Ramadan is in summer, temperatures can reach up to 33 C. Alhamdulilah, the high temperatures don't come everyday as most of the times temperatures are usually around 20-26 C. Ramadhan is not an excuse for being lazy; we must continue being productive and perform as many good deeds as possible. The moment everybody is looking forward to is iftar and this year, we have several iftar events. The first iftar event was hosted by Deppenbroek mosque, which is a turkish mosque in enschede. The second iftar event is hosted by HDV diyanet which is the turkish community. We are very grateful to enjoy free turkish cuisine. Our third and fourth iftar event is in ITC hotel and deppenbroek mosque. However, this time it is potluck; everyone gets to bring his/her own dish. As the muslim community is diverse, we enjoyed a multicultural iftar. Finally eid ul fitri came and it is the time to rejoice. We are fortunate as eid falls on Sunday, and had it fallen on Monday, we may not be able to do the eid prayer. We have spent one month to cleanse our hearts and prepare ourselves for the next 11 months. We hope to see Ramadhan again next year UT Muslims would like to wish everyone a happy eid. May Allah accept all our good deeds.
