Dear Brothers in Islam, All praises and thanks are due to Alláh, the Lord of all that exists. May the peace and blessings of Alláh be upon Muhammad, the Messenger of Alláh, and his Family and Companions and all who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgement. My beloved brothers in Islam, We all read a lot the beginning of Suraat Al-Baqarah and many people know the first verses by heart. (4) ( 2 ) This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah ( 3 ) Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them, ( 4 ) And who believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith]. And here if we observe the context of these verses, we’ll find that Allah () is glorifying the Holy Qur’an. If you read any book you’ll find that in the preface the author says that if there are any mistakes in the book then you should contact him for example on this email.
However, Allah () starts his Holy Book by saying that in this book there is no doubt at all. And because there is no doubt at all in this book and it’s a perfect book then it is wise for us as human beings to follow everything this book says. That’s why Allah () said (هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ ) it is a guidance for the righteous people. Then Allah () mentioned in the following verse what are the qualities of those righteous people. And the order always matters in the Qur’an. If a certain quality is mentioned before another one, then this implies more importance to the first one. So Allah () mentions in the 3rd verse that the qualities of the righteous people are that first they believe in the unseen. Second, establish prayer and thirdly pay charity. And here is one important remark for us as muslims from the order of these three qualities. When Allah () mentions believing in the unseen before the worships we perform, this is because of its importance. So it is more important to have faith in your heart first before doing worship. All the worships we do are just a tool for having more faith in our hearts. And Prophet Muhammad () has detailed for us what to believe in. You all ofcourse know the famous Hadeeth of Gabriel when he personified as a man and asked prophet Muhammad several questions in front of the Sahabah. It was reported that Umar ibn AlKhattab said: بينما نحن جلوس عند رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم ذات يوم إذ طلع عينا رجل شديد بياض الثياب Once we were sitting in the company of Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when there appeared a man dressed in very white clothes and having extraordinary black hair. (Who was Gabriel the angel personified as a man) He sat down facing the Prophet (ﷺ) leaning his knees against the knees of the Prophet (ﷺ) and placing both of his palms over his two thighs and said, "O Muhammad (ﷺ)! Tell me about Islam". Then prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) replied to him. After that Gabriel then enquired: "Tell me about Iman (About Faith)." And the prophet (ﷺ) said: "It is to believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers and the Last Day and that you believe in destiny, its bad and good consequences. So In this Hadeeth you’ll find the main beliefs that no muslim is a true muslim unless he believes in those concepts. First we should believe in Allah (), who is the creator of all. We should believe in him although no one of us saw him. We should believe that he sees us and hears us. We should believe that he was not begotten and he does not beget. Nor is there to Him any equivalent (لم يلد و لم يولد و لم يكن له كفوا أحد) Then we should believe in the angles, creatures of Allah () who are created from light and can see us but we can not see them. We should also believe in Allah’s messengers and the previous scriptures that were revealed to these messengers. In addition to believing in the resurrection day and that everyone is accountable to all of his deeds. We should also believe in destiny. We should believe that certain things in our life are destined and we have no option in them. Like our families, our children, our birth, our death and so on. Among other creatures that are unseen by us and are part of our faith is the world of the Ginn. And we have in the Qur’an a whole chapter by the name of the Ginn where Allah () details for us this unseen creatures for us. Which will be the topic of today’s Khutba isAllah. The Ginn are a creature of Allah () created before us from fire and were given the free-will to either, believe and worship Allah, or to disbelieve and disobey him. And we’ve discussed in a previous Khutba before, the story of Iblis and his hatred to mankind. We’ve seen before that Iblis was a very faithful servant of Allah and that he was the best of his species in worshiping Allah that he was called “طاووس العباد”, the peacock of worshippers as a sign of his hard and beautiful worship to Allah (). And we’ve seen that as a reward to Iblis, Allah () allowed him to attend meetings with the angels. And he was there when Allah () ordered the angels to make Sugoud to Adam and he refused to prostrate out of arrogance. And the reason why he hates Adam and mankind so much is that Iblis thought because he worshipped Allah so hard then he deserves to be honored instead of Adam but he forgot that he is a servant to Allah and he should follow Allah’s command whether he likes it or not. Then after this turning point, Iblis requested from Allah () to keep him alive until the day of judgement and he promised to misguide human beings with all his power. (17) ( 16 ) [Satan] said, "Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. ( 17 ) Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You]." Then Allah () replied to him: (64) ( 63 ) [Allah] said, "Go, for whoever of them follows you, indeed Hell will be the recompense of you - an ample recompense. ( 64 ) And incite whoever you can among them with your voice and assault them with your horses and foot soldiers and become a partner in their wealth and their children and promise them." But Satan does not promise them except delusion. And the first thing Iblis did is that he devoted to each human being one of his followers from the Ginn to always stay close to him from the day he is born till the day he dies. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلاَّ وَقَدْ وُكِّلَ بِهِ قَرِينُهُ مِنَ الْجِنِّ " There is none amongst you with whom is not an attached from amongst the jinn (devil). It was also reported that Abu Huraira said, "The Prophet (ﷺ) said مَا مِنْ مَوْلُودٍ يُولَدُ إِلاَّ وَالشَّيْطَانُ يَمَسُّهُ حِينَ يُولَدُ، فَيَسْتَهِلُّ صَارِخًا مِنْ مَسِّ الشَّيْطَانِ إِيَّاهُ، إِلاَّ مَرْيَمَ وَابْنَهَا No child is born but that, Satan touches it when it is born whereupon it starts crying loudly because of being touched by Satan, except Mary and her son Isa. So from the very first day each one of us was born, Iblis has ordered one of his followers to live with us. If you go to work, he’ll come with you, if you eat he’ll eat with you, if you drink he’ll drink with you, if you sleep he’ll make three knots at your forehead so that you sleep too much as prophet Muhammad () said in a Hadeeth. If you go to pray he’ll try to distract you as much as possible. If you pay charity, he’ll try to discourage you and make you fear poverty. If you try to do any good deed he’ll always to discourage you and frighten you. And Iblis’ goal is very simple, he wants you with him in the Hellfire. (6) ( 6 ) Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be among the companions of the Blaze. And Ibn AlQayyem (رحمه الله), the famous scholar has mentioned 5 stages in which Iblis tries to misguide you. First He tries to make you disbelieve completely in God and become an atheist or to associate with Allah any creature, whether other humans, idols or even prophets. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Satan comes to one of you and says, 'Who created so-and-so? 'till he says, 'Who has created your Lord?' So, when he inspires such a question, one should seek refuge with Allah and give up such thoughts." So Iblis tries to make you disbelieve in Allah, and if he fails, he goes to the next stage which is to make you commit Bid’ah. That is he tries to make you invent something new in Islam and follow it blindly and make people follow it. If he fails to do so, he goes for the third stage which is to commit AlKaba’ir, the great sins in Islam, like killing, committing adultery, stealing, accepting interest in money and so on. And if he fails to make you commit Large sins, he then goes to the fourth stage which is commiting small sins. He tries to deceive you in believing that small sins are not important and that they won’t harm you. And if you don’t comply, he then goes to the 5th stage where he makes you busy with Allowed acts in Islam ((المباحات, he makes you watch too much sports, he makes you eat too much to sleep too much, and so on. So Dear brothers in Islam we are living with an invisible enemy that is trying to misguide us in every step we take towards Allah (). And there is no way that human beings with all their power and technology could ever reach one information about this enemy. Take a look at this university we are in. In which department in this university, or any university in the whole world, is there research being done on understanding the Ginn. In which department can you go read about these creatures living in your own house. In which textbook can you go and find information about this enemy that is trying to misguide you and bring you misery in your life and to the lives of all human beings. The answer is, you will never find information about these creatures except in Allah’s book. Allah () has provided us with all information we need to protect ourselves from the danger of this enemy. But the problem is not in Allah’s revelation, it is in us. Because it is us muslims, who threw away Allah’s revelation behind our backs and lived in ignorance and did not take our Lord’s words seriously. Allah warned us in the Holy Qur’an in so many verses from the danger of Iblis. Allah () says in Surat Al-Baqarah verse 168 وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ ۚ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy. Allah () says again in Surat Al-Baqarah verse 208 and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy. Allah says in Surat Al-An’am verse 142 and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy. Allah says in Surat Al-Zukhruf verse 62 وَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ ۖ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ And never let Satan avert you. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy. Allah says in Surat Yasin verse 60 أَلَمْ أَعْهَدْ إِلَيْكُمْ يَا بَنِي آدَمَ أَن لَّا تَعْبُدُوا الشَّيْطَانَ ۖ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan - [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy – Allah says in Surat Fatir verse 6 إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ فَاتَّخِذُوهُ عَدُوًّا Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. So dear brothers in Islam, let’s go back to Allah’s revelation and learn more about it and learn what Allah () wants us to know in order to have peaceful lives in this life and the hereafter. I say this and ask Alláh Az w Gal for forgiveness for me, you and all Muslims for every sin. Invoke Him for forgiveness, for He is the Most Forgiving and the Most Merciful. ………………………………………………………………………………………………… الحمد لله وحده و الصلاة و السلام على من لا نبي بعده، محمد صلى الله عليه و سلم و على آله و صحبه أجمعين. أما بعد، Dear Brothers in Islam, It is a shame that we muslims are ignorant of Allah’s revelation that he blessed us with. In this revelation we will find all details we need to know about this unseen species which live around us and can see us but we can’t see them. Allah () says in the Holy Qur’an إِنَّهُ يَرَاكُمْ هُوَ وَقَبِيلُهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا تَرَوْنَهُمْ Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. So how can you fight an enemy that is invisible to you? The answer lies in the sayings of prophet Muhammad () which we mentioned some of them in the previous Khutba. Which you can summarize by just knowing that whenever you remember Allah (), the devils can never harm you. If you enter your house and mention Allah’s name, the devils don’t sleep with you. If you eat and mention Allah’s name, the devils don’t share with you your food. If you are about to mate with your wife and you mention Allah’s name, the devil cannot harm you or your children. It was reported that prophet Muhammad () said If anyone amongst you intends to go to his wife he should say: In the name of Allah,0 Allah protect us against Satan and keep away the Satan from the one that you have bestowed upon us, and if He has ordained a male child for them, Satan will never be able to do any harm to him. So that’s how you protect you children. And always remember to recite Qur’an in your house a lot to protect it from devils entering it. It was reported that prophet Muhammad () said لاَ تَجْعَلُوا بُيُوتَكُمْ مَقَابِرَ وَإِنَّ الْبَيْتَ الَّذِي تُقْرَأُ فِيهِ الْبَقَرَةُ لاَ يَدْخُلُهُ الشَّيْطَانُ " Do not turn your houses into graves. Indeed Ash-Shaitan does not enter the house in which Surat Al-Baqarah is recited." And the sayings of prophet Muhammad () are full of words that you can say to protect yourself, your spouse and your children from the danger of devils. It’s only our homework to go and search for those sayings and know them by heart and always remember Allah () in all our actions, after you wake up, before you sleep, before you eat, before you exit your home, before you enter your home, before you do anything always make it a habit for you to say Bism Allah Al Rahman AlRahim. Dear brothers in Islam, Allah () says in the Qur’an Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. So let us all comply with our Lord’s commands and take it for serious and stop living our lives in ignorance and stop filling our heads with all sorts of distractions but instead, know Allah’s revelation more. And always remember that we are in a test. This life is just a test for the hereafter and all what is unseen to us nowadays will be crystal clear on the day of resurrection. All the Ginn that you don’t see now, you’ll see them then. All the angels that you don’t see now, you’ll see them then. The Hellfire which is unseen to you now, will be visible then and the Paradise which is unseen to you now will also be visible then. But on that day after seeing the unseen, the test will be over and depending on your performance in this life, your fate for eternity will be determined. So prepare yourselves to this day and remember these words from Allah (): يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقٌّ ۖ فَلَا تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَا يَغُرَّنَّكُم بِاللَّهِ الْغَرُور(5) ( 5 ) O mankind, indeed the promise of Allah is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allah by the Deceiver.
